We Have Moved :)

So after a successful 6 months, dating back to October 2010, both PSWin and Prince Apple have decided to make our website official, i.e a “.com” website. Although we have had a few hiccups we have stuck through, and made our blog read worthy, we hope to keep growing and hope all the readers out there will follow the other site, as this will not be updated.

However we will try to redirect this to our new link. Hope you guys continue reading and make us a successful Technology blog around Kuwait, and someday the world 😉

Here is our new website: http://www.wiredkwt.com/

yeah… i got one..(bb)

well… I never thought I would see the day that I would be the not so proud owner of a blackberry. Why? you might ask. Well for one im a huge apple fan and supporter. Another reason would be that blackberries just completely suck!… or so I thought. Now it wasnt like someone put a gun to my head and made me buy one, I got one because I wanted one and the main reason for that was because I needed a new phone and what better phone to buy than an iPhone???(to an apple fan at least) but here’s the problem, I want a white iPhone and the white iPhone wont be out till about next month and have to wait longer for the unlocked version. So I ended up getting the curve 8520 which is an entry-level model.

I got it for KD 65.500 at info-connect with a free wataniya number…pretty good deal huh? I opened the box expecting to hate everything inside and even thought the packaging would in no way be compared with apple packaging there was still something satisfying in its simplicity but then again I had been up for 46 hours when I opened the box so it could just be the sever sleep deprivation I was under.

Now this is actually my first blackberry and I have to admit I was quite impressed. I always thought that blackberries are just really buggy “business” phones that are always misused as social phones for bbm, twitter and Facebook and that they are very impractical and dysfunctional if compared to say the iPhone. Then I learned that there wasn’t much truth to that. The phone is actually quite functional and a lot of features which I thought were only on the iPhone such as cut, copy and past also spell check and auto correct I found to be part of the blackberry OS. All very useful features that I can’t live without.

As far as hardware, well that wasn’t very impressive to say the least, but then again it was only an entry-level model so you can’t really expect much from that. The 2.0 MP camera looked as if it was tinted and pictures were very grainy. Lagging and freezing didn’t happen that often but it happened a few times, especially when I’m typing which is weird because you would thin the processor should easily be able to handle typing, but that wasn’t really such a big issue. The speaker sounded horrible but then again its just a phone so you can’t really be expecting much. As for the materials used well nothing really says luxury more than plastic and rubber…

In the end i have to say its a pretty good phone that gives good value for money, which is something that blackberries aren’t really known for but they somehow managed to do. It’s a good functional phone with not a lot of features but pretty much everything you need.

X-Cite launching pre-orders for iPad 2 on Launch Date

Since Kuwait is not very advanced with its technology, i was wishing for the iPad 2 to get the same launch date as the US, sadly it isn’t launching exactly however they will have a show piece which you can test out on Saturday 12th, and place your pre-orders on the same day as well.

This has surprised me a lot, since Kuwait has never been able to display an Apple device on launch dates, so its the first time(i believe, correct me if i’m wrong). I will be going and getting my hands on the test device and getting a review about it up here on the same day. I’m hoping the price differences do not vary much, as it did with the iPad 1, otherwise it will be a massive disappointment.

For those who do not know, what the iPad 2 will bring, you can check it in my post earlier, here.

Playstation Updates to 3.60

Last night till about 6 AM Kuwait time(3 AM GMT time) the playstation network was down for maintenance, during that time, the playstation blog posted about them releasing 3.60 with a new feature for Playstation Plus users, which will include the feature of saving a game on the playstation server on one PS3, and then continuing the save on another one, nothing too special, but definitely a decent update. I’m still not pleased though, as this is a playstation plus feature.

In my opinion 3.60 has been released just to get their security updates, to stop people jailbreaking their PS3 devices, and they may just have been successful as all the devs who had a crack at it 2 months ago, do not want to try 3.60 as they are afraid of getting sued, and their hard drives being taken away.

So if you are currently on 3.55 and want to have a jailbroken PS3, and don’t mind the fact that you won’t play online, then stick with it, otherwise you can update to 3.60 and enjoy your online games.

Apple Event: iOS 4.3 and Apps

As I said in the previous post, todays apple event was not only about iPad 2 but also about iOS 4.3 and a some new apps like GarageBand and iMovie for the iPad 2.

For starters the iOS 4.3 is only going to be available for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1&2 and iTouch 3rd and 4th gens. This is quite bad for me as I own a 2nd gen *sigh*, there hasn’t been much of a change from 4.2.1 and 4.3 so i’m not missing out on anything, the changes have been a better Safari performance, by using Nitro javascript engine, iTunes home sharing i.e share your files wirelessly with iTunes, improvemnts on the airplay, you can have a personal hotspot for the iPhone 4 only, and a new PhotoBooth for the iPad, where you can add some cool effects. And as suspected FaceTime being enabled.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Now onto the apps, first off iMovie with which you can edit your videos, pictures and etc, and share it on youtube, vimeo and etc on the go, it will cost 4.99$ and will be released on March 11th. Same goes for GarageBand, where you can play the piano, drums(with front view), and guitar acoustic or with an amp, comes out on the 11th and will cost 4.99$. All pictures are in the slideshow, so enjoy.

Again special thanks to engadget for all the pictures through their liveblog.

Apple event: iPad 2 announced by Steve Jobs

As expected today was suppose to be the launch of iPad 2, personally i was a bit excited, specially since this would be the first event since the rumors about Steve Jobs being sick, and guess who came for the launch today… Steve Jobs.

As usual all of Apple’s events start of with what has happened during the year since their last release, this time they had shown lots of figures, for started the developers of idevices got 2 billion dollars among them, over 200 million accounts were created for the App store, iTunes Store and iBook store, selling their 100th Million iPhone 4 recently and selling over 150 million iPad’s in 9 months. But the best figure was the App Store selling 65000 apps for the iPad compared to samsungs Honeycomb’s 100 apps sold.

Sonn after those large figures, a video of what the iPad had done around the world was shown, which was followed by two slides reading the following, “2010: year of the iPad”, “2011: year of the copycats”

Which was then followed by the official release. The iPad 2 has a lot of new specs but nothing too major, the specs are the following, a new A5 processor, which has dual core processor, makes the iPad’s CPU 2 times faster, and graphics 9 times faster. It comes with two cameras, one at the back and for the front, a gyroscope like they had on the iTouch and iPhone, and it is much thinner and lighter, it has been slimmed down to 8.8 mm from 13.8 mm, and made lighter from 1.5 pounds to 1.3 pounds. It will come in both Black and white and will be shipped on the 11th of March in the USA, and later releases in the world on the 25th. It costs the same as the iPad 1 itself, starting from 499$ for wifi only and 629$ for wifi and 3G, this is for the 16GB ones(see below for all prices).

Along with the iPad release, Steve announced a new cover, and HDMI output cable. The HDMI output cable gives up to 1080p resolution and costs 39$, whereas the covers are probably the most interesting ones, it magnetizes itself and aligns itself along the iPad, and turns on when you open, and you can fold it make it a stand, it will cost 39$ for poly cases, and 69$ for leather(pictures below).

This was only part of the Apple Event, for the iPad 2 laucnh, the next post i’ll talk about iOS 4.3 and its features, and new apps like Garageband and iMovie for the iPad 2, so stay tuned…

As we cannot make it to these events, we thank engadget.com for the pictures, and keeping everyone updated through their liveblog.
