well I’ve had these headphones for over 5 months now so I know them pretty well. Now they cost around $79 or KD20 and the sound quality is pretty good for headphones in that price range. The headphones feature a pair of mini-subwoofers and they are over-ear headphones.
The bass is explosive( they weren’t called skullcrushers for no reason) but that is also somewhat of a con because depending on the type of music you are listing to the bass is sometimes too strong and may drown out the music. Also a lot of the time the bass is more felt than heard because the subwoofer just causes the headphones to vibrate.
As far as clarity goes these are certainly not the best headphones for that. Sound clarity on the skullcrushers is decent. They really make a good attempt to hit the highs and mids but just don’t quite hit it hard enough. On some songs the sound gets distorted when played on high volume.
These are powered headphones. That means they run on batteries for the headphones to work. They also work without batteries but there will be absolutely no bass at all as the batteries are used to power the subwoofer. They take one AA battery in the in-line subwoofer amplifier which also has bass vibration control. Batteries usually last about a month if I always remember to switch them off after i use them.
As for the materials used.. i guess i could say that they are okay.. well actually they are pretty good. The cushioning on the ear-cups is very comfortable and I can wear them for hours and not feel any discomfort. The head bands are adjustable to fit almost any head size and overall they feel quite solid and well built.
In the “box” you get the headphones(duh!), Airline Adaptor, travel bag, AA battery, 6.3mm adapter and a travel pouch.
These headphones come in a ton of different colors and which is kinda what Skullcandy are all about. The headphones look very cool in almost every color or design. I got the Snoop Dogg edition ones which come in either black on white or navy on white and have a bandana design.
As a conclusion if you’re looking an affordable pair of for a stylish headphones with booming bass these are definitely the headphones for you. On the other hand if your more technical and prefer clarity over bass then these aren’t the headphones for you. Overall these are a good pair of headphones and deliver good sound for headphones in that price range.
